Gol TV reaches 665,000 subs

October 21, 2009

From David Del Valle in Madrid

First Spanish pay DTT channel Gol TV, operated by Mediapro, claims to have reached 665,000 subscribers since the beginning of the month with 15,000 through DTT and 650,000 through other pay-TV platforms (cable: Ono, R, Telecable, Euskaltel; IPTV: Imagenio, Jazztel and Orange).

The company hopes to speed up the take-up of the channel with the massive launch of pay-DTT set-top-boxes and CAMs over the coming weeks, with around 25,000 units weekly set to reach the market to end the year.

Miguel Sebastian, minister of Industry, estimated that pay DTT will generate a E5 billion of business over the next four years. The Parliament's green light to pay DTT is a setback to Prisa, owner of Sogecable and the DTH platform Digital Plus, which over the last weeks have been lobbying against the ratification.
