Sky Italia could launch a movie channel in 3D in the next 12 months, according to CEO Tom Mockridge.

During a press conference to present the new football season on Sky Italia, Mockridge said that a 3D version of the Sky TG24 and Sky Sport channel is also on the cards. However he added that customers will have to wait a bit more, as Sky Italia needs first to complete its HD offer before switching to 3D.

The boss of Sky Italia also revealed that weekly some 25,000 Italian families request the digital key, the tool that allows reception of DTT channels via the digital satellite box, bringing the total of digital keys installed to nearly one million.

Mockridge claimed that the DTH operator is not afraid of competition from Mediaset Premium, pointing out that Sky Italia will be the only Italian pay-TV operator to broadcast all matches of the Serie A, also in HD.

Mediaset Premium recently launched a promotion that enables subscribers to watch Italian league football at E14 a month, compared to Sky Italia’s E29 fee for a basic Football or Sports package.
