October 26, 2010

Irdeto, the global expert in securing and delivering premium content and digital assets, congratulates customer Videocon d2h, a provider of direct-to-home (DTH) services for India, for recently reaching two million subscribers. To achieve this significant milestone, Videocon d2h relied on Irdeto’s robust end-to-end pay-TV solution suite to create a distinctive user experience with direct access to premium content, customized delivery and flexible viewing options for consumers.

“Videocon d2h is very excited to have reached this incredible two million subscriber milestone with the help of Irdeto’s team and technology,” said Mr. Saurabh Dhoot, director, Videocon Group. “Irdeto has undisputed leadership in providing end-to-end solutions for pay media operators, so the company was a clear choice for building innovative applications and a successful DTH offering.”

Working closely with Irdeto to maximize cost-effectiveness and ease-of-deployment, Videocon d2h rapidly delivered a DTH offering across India featuring a 267 channel service with the highest number sports channels across DTH and the most regional language channels in the country, including 10 channels in Marathi, 19 channels in Tamil, 18 in Telugu, 14 in Malayalam, 13 in Kannada, 13 in Bengali, 6 in Oriya, 7 in Punjabi.

“As an established player in consumer electronics, we understand the diverse needs of our customers and wanted to implement the best available technology in order stand out among the competition,” added Mr. Anil Khera, CEO of Videocon d2h. “This recent success can be attributed to Videocon d2h’s truly innovative approach to meeting the evolving needs of media consumers, in addition to a strong distribution network and Irdeto’s customized solution.”

While Irdeto partners with a broad cross-section of leading pay TV operators in the Asia Pacific region, Videocon d2h is the first Asian implementation of the company’s end-to-end solution, including Irdeto’s conditional access, middleware and customer care & billing technologies. Videocon d2h leveraged Irdeto’s highly effective content protection and customizable programming and billing systems to reduce cost, time-to-market and churn, ultimately increasing average revenue per user and overall growth for pay TV and DTH services.

Celebrating the success, Mr. Sanjiv Kainth, country manager-India for Irdeto, said: “Irdeto would like to congratulate Videocon d2h for achieving the two million subscriber mark in this highly competitive market. With the India DTH market expected to double in size to reach 40 million subscribers by 2013, there is strong potential for Videocon d2h to build on its early market success and develop a strong and sustainable business model. We look forward to working with Videocon d2h to drive the continued growth of its pay TV services.”

The new offering from Videocon d2h has quickly risen above the traditional “price-only” competition of other DTH operators and set-top box (STB) manufacturers in the country. Through Irdeto’s technology, Videocon d2h can now offer integrated entertainment devices that open the door to new revenue streams like games, shopping, interactive services and other forms of consumer participation. There also exists the option of developing targeted advertising to further drive revenue.
