FilmOn, Catchup link up

January 26, 2011

FilmOn.com has announced at Natpe that it has formed a strategic alliance with TVCatchup.com, the top UK-based, advertising supported IPTV provider. Both companies are facing continuing legal challenges from broadcasters and studios who claim their services breach their content rights.

The strategic alliance will incorporate both subscription and advertising-based revenue models from the two companies to increase overall profits.  The alliance will also incorporate marketing, technology support and combine the collective content available on the two platforms, expanding the programming for all subscribers.

“TVCatchup has done a tremendous job in raising company revenue on an advertising model while FilmOn has focused its attention in bringing a quality product to market through a low subscription rate,” said Alki David, founder and CEO, FilmOn.  “We are combining the best of both companies to ensure the very best IPTV product with the most content to UK audiences.”

Under the strategic alliance, the two companies will join efforts on its legal battle to defend its right in transmitting UK content via the Web.  FilmOn will also help TVCatchup expand its reach to include North America and beyond.

“FilmOn is an excellent partner as our business models and efforts are very complementary to each other and our combined efforts will make us the world’s largest IPTV carrier,” said Adam Smith, vice president of business development, TVCatchup.  “We have both proven through millions of subscribers that there is a tremendous incremental audience for live TV over the Web and our collective hard work will continue to make it available for our subscribers.”

FilmOn and TVCatchup will announce its new subscription rates and content line up in the near future.
