YouTube: TV content boosts views 50%

May 26, 2011

YouTube has reported a 50 per cent jump in video views, taking the total to 3 billion views a day and it has revealed more than 48 hours of video are uploaded to the site each minute, a 37 per cent rise over the last six months.

YouTube attributes the increase in viewing to its long-form content tie-ups with broadcasters like Channel 4 and Channel 5. It is now looking for more linear TV channel tie-ups; the likes of ITV have resisted so far though they do provide individual shows.

It also wants content deals with independent producers, music and sports rights holders and getting them will be the job of former ITV head of online Ben McOwen Wilson to now director of content partnerships for YouTube.
