ALi Corporation, a provider of set-top box (STB) system-on-chip (SoC) solution and Cubiware, a provider of DVB/IP hybrid Middleware, today jointly announced a broad-based collaboration to provide best-of-breed yet cost efficient Hybrid Set-top Box solutions for Pay TV operators. ALi’s first SoC series based on this partnership includes the advanced CA-enabled Linux-based STB SoCs, M3603 and M3383, which will be pre-integrated with CubiTV Middleware and available to STB vendors as a reference design. The products will be exhibited at IBC2011, Friday, September 9 through Tuesday, September 13 at Cubiware’s booth at Hall 5 C35.

As more and more consumers are willing to get entertained with the new content provided by traditional broadcasters, and increase their demand on digital entertainment, the digitalization for Satellite, DTT and Cable operators is growing rapidly. A hybrid IP set-top box creates a new consumer TV experience for viewers by offering interactive and on-demand services combined with linear broadcast. Many evidences showed that operators are still in the early stage of implementing hybrid IP networks, and as such, the Hybrid Set-top box segment is expected to experience the strongest growth over the next few years. According to an In-Stat’s report, the Hybrid Set-top Box segment is likely to create a US$ 1.3 billion sub-segment of the set top box industry, implying a 40% CAGR through 2014.

“ALi”s M3603 and M3383 support the latest security features required to implement digital STB for satellite, terrestrial, cable or IPTVs. The reference design with Cubiware are the first best-of-breed Hybrid Set-top Box solutions which combine all the features that end consumers demand for but have been limited only in the high-end Hybrid Set-top Box market,” said Tony Chang, General Manager, International Business Unit at ALi Corporation.

Jakub Gorski, CEO of Cubiware, added, “We are glad to be the first Middleware company to adopt ALi’s industry leading Linux platform. By closely working together, ALi and Cubiware have developed high-performing and feature-full hybrid solution, which is available to STB vendors for immediate adaptation. With ALi’s solution, we can now effectively address a growing demand for fast, efficient and cost effective solution from our customers worldwide.”
