Minerva boosts OTT with TVBLOB purchase

November 9, 2011

IPTV delivery solutions specialist Minerva Networks has enhanced its ability to deploy TV services across multiple networks and devices with the acquisition of privately-held TVBLOB. Headquartered in Milan, Italy, TVBLOB develops software products for the delivery of entertainment services on consumer electronics devices combining legacy television with Internet media sources. The company has successfully deployed its software platform in partnership with consumer equipment manufacturers.

“The know-how acquired over the past several years makes TVBLOB one of the main actors in the over-the-top television landscape,” said Mauro Bonomi, chief executive officer of Minerva Networks. “The combination of Minerva’s service management platform with TVBLOB’s over-the-top video solutions will result in the most advanced and scalable platform for the deployment of television services across multiple networks and devices.”

Minerva’s xTVFusion solution and the BLOBbox platform are both based on the Linux operating system and support open standards. Minerva suggests that TVBLOB’s technology will help its service provider customers reach more devices over more networks and expand monetisation opportunities.

“The TVBLOB team is very pleased to join forces with Minerva to address the global Television-over-IP market opportunity,” said Pancrazio Auteri, TVBLOB’s co-founder and chief technology officer.

TVBLOB’s employees will be integrated into a newly formed Minerva Italia subsidiary.
