SES offers 10 Mb/s satellite broadband

Satellite operator SES says its ASTRA2Connect broadband-by-satellite service can now handle download speeds of up to 10 Mb/s. Following agreements with German Internet service provider Filiago and UK-based distribution partner BeyonDSL, end-users in Germany and in the UK and Ireland are now able to enjoy increased speeds with their satellite broadband Internet connection. Both companies are long-standing ASTRA2Connect partners.

SES claims ASTRA2Connect is still Europe’s most successful satellite broadband service with “more than 80,000 end users”. The claim is made despite the launch of Eutelsat’s giant Ka-Sat service earlier this year.

“The agreements with Filiago and BeyonDSL for increased service speeds represent a major step forward. They will enhance the user experience and further increase the competitiveness of ASTRA2Connect,” said Ferdinand Kayser, Chief Commercial Officer of SES. “With increased download speeds of up to 10Mbps, we will further grow our user base. We also plan to expand the service into other European markets to improve internet access for everyone.”
