MobiTV, Deutsche Telekom in multi-screen deal

January 10, 2012

In a significant entry into the European market, mobile content delivery specialist MobiTV is partnering with Deutsche Telekom to develop a converged media platform that will enable the delivery of content across multiple platforms including mobile phones, tablets, PCs, Internet TVs and set-top boxes (STB). Deutsche Telekom will integrate MobiTV’s TV Everywhere solution to support the commercial release of its converged media services.

MobiTV’s TV Everywhere solution supports Deutsche Telekom’s converged service offering that will expand the delivery of live TV and on-demand programming to multiple screens. This converged media experience can address the growing consumer demand for universal access to TV content, says MobiTV.

The first phase of the technology partnership began with a trial implementation of the converged multi-screen service that integrates MobiTV’s TV Everywhere solution into Deutsche Telekom existing IPTV service – Entertain. As a key component of the convergence service ecosystem, MobiTV’ s TV Everywhere solution will enable Deutsche Telekom’s IPTV subscribers to view both live and on demand video content on authorised PCs, tablets and smartphone devices.

“Consumer acceptance of TV ‘on the go’ has opened the door to a truly converged multi-screen offering that will allow broadcasters, cable operators and pay TV providers to extend the delivery of primetime shows, live sporting events and VOD services to tablets, smartphones and PCs,” said MobiTV Chief Executive Officer Charlie Nooney.

“Deutsche Telekom has acknowledged this shift in the market. It is well prepared to meet the demand for ‘TV Everywhere’ through the integration of MobiTV’s TV Everywhere solution into their service ecosystem to support content delivery and other critical back-end services,” he declared.
