Belgacom TV hits 1.2m subs

March 2, 2012

Belgian telco Belgacom has reported a strong performance for its TV operations in 2011, despite falling revenues and profits.

The total number of subscribers to its ‘Belgacom TV’ IPTV service reached 1.211 million by the end of December, up 24 per cent from one year previously, with 72’000 coming in the 4th quarter alone.

TV revenues reached €208 million, up 14.3 per cent annually, thanks to the continued sound subscriber growth. However, the free football offer of July 2011 and activation/installation promotions impacted TV’s average revenue per user (ARPU), resulting in a year-over-year decline of 11.3 per cent to €17.50.

Total revenues across all operations and markets weren’t so positive due to divestments and lower revenues in the consumer segment. The telco generated a turnover of €6.406 billion for 2011, down 3 per cent from 2010, while EBITDA fell 3.7 per cent by the same comparison to reach €1.912 billion.
