Italian DTH operator Sky Italia has invested almost €9.2 billion between 2004 and 2011, a cumulative expenditure that produced direct and indirect effects on the Italian economy estimated at €19.2 billion (1.3 per cent of GDP).

This emerges from the study conducted by the Institute of Media Economics (IEM) of the Rosselli Foundation, contained in the report “Sky effect: the impact on industry and the economy in Italy”, published by Rubbettino, and presented during the International Journalism Festival in Perugia.

Considering the quantitative effects on the labour market, the cumulative expenditure by Sky Italia should have produced about 121,000 new job positions in the whole of the Italian economy over the period. Focusing on full-time positions employed directly by Sky Italia and industries and workers related to the business, the investments in the period under review created about 21,000 new positions.
