New Zealand: 84% digital and rising

May 9, 2012

New Zealand starts switching off its analogue transmissions on September 30. The country’s national ‘switch off’ campaign is being handled by Going Digital, which says the area around Hawke’s Bay (East Coast of North Island) and the West Coast of South Island is first on the list. The options for viewers in those regions are to choose a Freeview terrestrial set-top box, or plumb for Sky’s satellite signal.

Some 84 per cent of the country is already ‘digital’ and the country is helping fund the costs for the elderly (via its ‘Targeted Assistance Package’), disabled or similarly disadvantaged.

The nation’s Absolute Swiitch Off is scheduled for Sunday December 1st, 2013.
