Masstech to archive and manage content for City TV in Colombia

May 14, 2012

Masstech, ta provider of streamlined media asset management (MAM) solutions, will implement its TOPAZ version 7.5 streamlined MAM and digital archiving at each of City TV’s two facilities located at Calle 26 and Av Jimenez  in Bogota, Colombia to digitise, manage and preserve all its content.

City TV has two channels that broadcast 7×24. One of its channels, CityTV focuses on news, variety programmes and general programming and the other channel Canal El Tiempo (ET) specializes in News broadcasting. The Calle 26 facility produces content for CityNoticias (CityNews) and ET, whereas the Av Jimenez facility focuses on content production for Variety programming.

The two integrated TOPAZ systems will interoperate with the production environment to perform storage, transcoding and data movement, simultaneously replicating content to each other for contribution and redundancy purposes. The TOPAZ system at Calle 26 will archive and manage content for City TV’s news system and Canal ET’s broadcast environment, interfacing with Avid’s iNews NRCS and editing systems. iNews users will be able to search, view and restore previously archived content directly from their iNews user interface. The other system at Av Jimenez will provide media asset management for its “variety” and general programming, documentaries, soap operas and others.

The post production facility and news facility currently incorporate an Avid Unity Media Network and more than 10 Avid editors and Panasonic P2 as capture format.

The twin TOPAZ systems, once implemented, will achieve operational workflow efficiencies allowing newsroom and programming staff to search, browse and view content from their desktop. TOPAZ also features performance enhancements including support for 64bit Windows OS, LTO-5 LTFS material interchange and portability, and an improved database with more efficient searching capabilities. The TOPAZ digital workflow system is expected to be fully operational at City TV in July this year.

Luis Lopez, Sales Manager for Latin America and the Caribbean at Masstech said: “We along with Videoelec S.A.(our partner in Colombia) are pleased to collaborate with City TV to help them migrate to a state-of-the-art workflow system that will provide infinite expandable digital storage and efficient workflow management. The benefits that this project will deliver to City TV’s facilities are phenomenal from every angle – from protecting critical assets, improving staff productivity to providing seamless connectivity for their entire production chain.”
