The massive distribution of Canal Plus through all existing platforms continues now with the launch of its OTT service Canal Plus Yomvi on iPad from next month. The service will offer 18 TV channels through iPad with cinema, music concerts, football and other sports as the main features.

Prisa, owner of Canal Plus, believes that the existing one million iPads in Spain will give a definitive boost to its OTT service already available on PC, Jazztel, Microsoft’s XboX and Smart TVs like Samsung and LG. The company is also planning to launch the service on Iphone and Android phones in the first quarter of 2013.

“We think that with 1 million units in Spain Ipad is the ideal device to give a step forward, not only for its quality but for the revolution it means the arrival of this platform in the audiovisual world”, said Stephen Dove, General Director of the Digital Division at Prisa.

Telefonica is buying €100 million of convertible bonds in indebted Prisa, with an eye to converting them to a stake in the firm.

Prisa had announced a recapitalisation plan to convert €434 million of bonds into Class A shares in two years at €1.03. Telefonica had bought €100 million of bonds destined for institutional investors, while HSBC, Caixabank and Banco Santander had committed to buying the remaining €334 million.
