ONO and TiVo upgrade

June 28, 2012

TiVo and ONO, the largest cable operator in Spain announced the first major software upgrade to the ONO-deployed TiVo platform that delivers a host of new functions and features to Spain’s most advanced hybrid TV viewing experience.

New software features include an upgrade from two to three tuners, giving TiVo users more recording and viewing options than ever before. The enhanced video-on-demand offering integrates assets from ONO’s Videoclub library into its search feature and offers the ability to go back in time in the grid guide to catch-up on programs that have already aired. Plus, the updated YouTube leanback application underpins TiVo’s ability to seamlessly integrate industry leading third-party apps into the TiVo experience.

With over six million Spanish homes passed, ONO has made TiVo available nationwide across all of its markets, following successful launches in Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia, ONO’s largest market, and an accelerating number of ONO customers now have the TiVo experience.

This easy-to-use offering allows viewing of high-definition (HD) and 3D video content as well as a personal video recording (PVR) through the TiVo experience. ONO also offers thousands of hours of broadband-delivered on demand video for subscribers that have signed up for the TiVo service from ONO. In addition, ONO has created its own apps for its TiVo users, giving them access to weather information, music, photos and more. Combined, these capabilities have created the most advanced hybrid television service available in Spain and a TV viewing experience that is unmatched in the region.

Joshua Danovitz, VP & General Manager of International for TiVo Inc., said, “TiVo is thrilled to enable ONO to nationally deploy these significant feature enhancements just in time for both the Summer Olympics and the Euro Cup soccer tournament. The HD content that ONO delivers on the TiVo platform, now enhanced with easy to find broadband content, makes ONO the best hybrid TV experience.”

Guillermo Mercader, Chief Operating Officer of Residential for ONO, explained, “TiVo has changed the way ONO customers think of television; they have fully embraced this new world of on demand and internet-delivered content and we are thrilled to work with TiVo to keep this solution on the cutting edge.  ONO is thrilled to see the positive impact that TiVo is having on customer satisfaction, clearly enabling ONO to provide the most compelling TV offering in Spain.”

These software enhancements will be available beginning July 2012
