The much-anticipated launch of Google’s fibre-to-the-home network Google Fiber has been scheduled for July 26th.

The information and search giant has sent out invitations to a “special event” in Kansas City on that date that reads, “We would like to invite you to a special announcement about Google Fiber and the next chapter of the Internet.”

Google Fiber, a subsidiary of Google, late February 2012 filed applications in Missouri and Kansas to operate a video/TV service. Plans for an experimental fibre network were first revealed February 2011, with Google confirming March 30th 2011 that Kansas City would be the location.

In the Kansas application, Google said it would “utilise national and regional video headend facilities to send IPTV across a private network to subscribers.”
