Harris CapRock selects the Intelsat EpicNG platform to provide advanced broadband infrastructure

July 23, 2012

Intelsat, the world’s leading provider of satellite services, thas announced that Harris CapRock Communications, a global provider of fully managed communications for remote and harsh environments, will utilise the Intelsat EpicNG platform on Intelsat 29e for advanced fixed and mobile services.  Under a multi-year agreement, Harris CapRock will utilise the next- generation Intelsat EpicNG platform to expand its service offerings and offer new applications to its global customers across the energy, maritime and government markets. Harris CapRock currently has Ku-band capacity on multiple satellites on the Intelsat fleet, which will expand to Intelsat 29e when it is launched.

The agreement, which will enable the provision of more than one gigabit of throughput on the Intelsat EpicNG satellite platform, furthers Harris CapRock’s global relationship with Intelsat.  Demand for Harris CapRock’s turn-key solutions to the energy, maritime and government industries reflect the growing need for broadband connectivity, whether on the ground, at sea or in the air. Connectivity in these environments is mission-critical to enabling constant monitoring and control of valuable assets and mobile platforms in remote locations. Intelsat’s global satellite infrastructure enables broadband connectivity to virtually any point on the Earth’s surface.

“Harris CapRock has thousands of existing locations operating on our global infrastructure. We chose the Intelsat EpicNG platform for its superior design, backward compatibility and high throughput performance, all of which allow us to build upon our current deployments while enhancing our long-term capabilities,” said Tom Eaton, president, Harris CapRock. “We looked at a number of emerging technologies that have been receiving a great deal of attention recently, and after thorough analysis we determined that Intelsat EpicNG was the best platform for our customers whose operations require high performance and maximum network uptime.”

“The need for reliable broadband and high throughput on maritime and remote platforms continues to grow,” said Intelsat EVP of Sales, Marketing and Strategy Steve Spengler. “With Intelsat EpicNG , Harris CapRock will enjoy an enhanced level of flexibility and control over its service offerings that will enable increased efficiency and higher performance. Our investment in the Intelsat EpicNG platform, paired with the global mobility infrastructure being deployed in our 2012 launches, reflects Intelsat’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for mobility and other high-throughput applications in the network services, government and media sectors.”

The Intelsat EpicNG platform, initially comprised of Intelsat 29e and Intelsat 33e, will utilise multiple frequency bands, wide beams, spot beams and frequency reuse technology. Intelsat EpicNG will be complemented by Intelsat’s existing satellite fleet and IntelsatONESM terrestrial network. The two satellites, which are expected to launch in 2015 and 2016 respectively, will serve all of the populated continents.
