Spain’s largest cable operator, ONO, is relying on its added-value TV service TiVo in an attempt to soften the pay TV decline.
The company ended the first half of the year with 897,000 pay TV subscribers against 952,000 clients a year earlier. However its TiVo service, available to 92 per cent of its network, captured 34,000 customers since its launch in October in what it seems to be the first signal of its definitive take-off in Spain.
The operator said the platform should help it to increase its pay TV subscriber base and increase revenues in the coming quarters.
“We believe there are early signs of positive market acceptance as showcased by the positive momentum in customer acquisitions, the low churn levels and the excellent satisfaction metrics experienced by customers subscribing to this service.” said the company.
Announcing its second quarter results, ONO’s Internet customers increased to 1.422 million from 1.414 million. The operator ended the second quarter with 1.9 million RGUs that took 4.4 million services. Revenues for the second quarter were up 5.7 per cent year-on-year to €389 million.
