Cognacq-Jay Image operates Canal+ multi-thematic 20 channels playout

Leveraging its valuable 20 years’ experience in playout services, Cognacq-Jay Image has been chosen by Canal+ to provide the playout service of its 20 multi-thematic channels. The new platform was successfully set to the air this July 24th 2012.
CJI consolidates its position as leading player in Europe by implementing a new playout center in its premises near Paris, dimensioned to welcome additional HD, SD or mixed channels. The main characteristics of this platform gather:
– Totally file-based with automatic quality control relying on CJI own developments
– Full HD including Up and Down conversion, aspect ratio conversion, HD or SD output, multiple subtitle capability (for SD and HD), Dolby digital…
– Full dynamic branding
– Complete Audio shuffling and levelling
– Complete integration with Canal+ information system using BXF (Broadcast exchange format)
>30000 h of media files in storage
– Disaster recovery
In order to achieve very high Quality-Of-Service in 24/24 running mode, together with optimised operational costs, Cognacq-Jay Image has installed an advanced monitoring system based on SNMP (simple network management protocol) gathering equipment alarm and signals check alarms.
“Two points have been particularly challenging in this project: BXF integration as it had to be led in parallel between internal Canal+ project and Cognacq-Jay Image playout project; and media ingest because of high volumes and limited delay”, says Alain Lorentz, Chief Technical Officer at Cognacq-Jay Image, “All CJI project staff got involved to answer the demanding planning and quality, in a very good team spirit with Canal + staff”.
