October 1st, and just nicely timed for the MIPCOM programming market which opens this weekend, earthTV is upgrading its transmissions to HDTV and even adding some 3D content.

Munich-based earthTV (and sister service The World Live platform) captures up-to-the minute footage from the world’s best known cities and most photogenic locations. Their technicians installed their own web-cams, and these are now being upgraded to especially designed HD units.

“We want to re-awaken the world of broadcasting to the quality, richness and range of earthTV programmes and footage.” said Nik Lohmann, one of the company’s owners. “At the moment we reach more than two billion television and online viewers in more than 150 countries every day and we are confident that we can bring our programmes and footage to other outlets that would benefit from our high quality coverage.

“We strongly believe in connecting the power of the traditional TV world with modern new media. earthTV is not only a beautiful product connecting the world Live, but also has a very successful history on television and we will add new technologies and multimedia synergies to expand its possibilities in all media,” he added.
