EchoStar appoints de Bastos as CTO

January 6, 2013

EchoStar, the global satellite services provider, has announced that SiriusXM Radio veteran executive Derek de Bastos has joined EchoStar Satellite Services, LLC, a subsidiary of EchoStar Corp., as Chief Technology Officer.

de Bastos will be responsible for the procurement, technical direction, and technical operations for EchoStar’s satellite fleet and will manage a growing team responsible for systems engineering and programme management.

de Bastos joins ESS from SiriusXM Radio, where he was vice president of engineering, a position he held since Sirius and XM merged in 2008. He was among the first employees of XM Satellite Radio and was the vice president of satellite engineering for nine years preceding the merger, during which time he helped take the company from a vision to America’s first nationwide digital satellite radio service.  He also held management positions with Worldspace and Lockheed Martin (formerly RCA) Astro Space.
