Sky Germany: Profits surprise

skydeutschSky Deutschland has surprised analysts by reporting a profitable Q1, helped by strong subscriber growth. The market was expecting an EBITDA loss of some €4.7 million, but the company turned in an operating profit of €5.8 million, helped by sales revenues that were up 14 per cent to €364 million (€318m in 2012). ARPU rose €1.39 a month to €33.15 a month.  HD subscriber growth was up 99,300 at 1.61 million.

CEO Brian Sullivan reported his numbers early on May 3, saying that subscriber numbers grew 1.2 per cent to 3.4 million.  “Sky had a great start to 2013, with strong subscriber and product growth, record viewership and a significant improvement in our financial performance,” Sullivan said.
