NetFlix: Virgin UK’s fastest ISP again

May 14, 2013

virgin_usain_boltNetflix has named Virgin Media the UK’s fastest Internet service provider for the sixth consecutive month, based on its high average broadband speeds.

Netflix launched its ISP Speed Index in November 2012, and releases new figures every month to advise customers which is the best ISP for TV and film streaming.

“The Netflix ISP Speed Index is based on data from the more than 36 million Netflix members who view over [one] billion hours of TV shows and movies streaming from Netflix per month. The listed speeds reflect the average performance of all Netflix streams on each ISP’s network and are an indicator of the performance typically experienced across all users on an ISP network,” explained NetFlix.

Unsurprisingly, Virgin Media has topped the list for the sixth month in a row with an average speed of 2.47Mbit/s – up from the 2.43Mbit/s recorded in March. This is also up from the 2.24Mbit/s recorded in Netflix’s first ISP Speed Index in November, which shows that Virgin Media is continuing to improve its broadband speeds.

Talktalk ranked as the worst ISP for April this year, offering an average speed of 2.08Mbit/s. EE, which came bottom in March, climbed one place with an average speed of 2.10Mbit/s.
