Viewster strengthens On-demand TV offering, with new content deals aimed at younger audiences

May 21, 2013

Viewster, a fast-growing VoD service, has partnered with Shine Group, Starz Digital Media, ALL3MEDIA and KBS Media, to offer 240 hours of new TV series on-demand, for free, through its popular, ad-supported platform for films and TV shows. Available in 120 countries globally, Viewster is enjoying rapid growth worldwide as younger viewers swap linear TV for on-demand services.

Targeting this audience, Viewster’s latest partnerships give UK viewers on-demand access to a raft of cult teen dramas including Skins, Beaver Falls and Fresh Meat. New content will also be made available to viewers in the US (ALL3MEDIA, KBS Media), Germany (ALL3MEDIA) and Australia (ALL3MEDIA, Starz Digital Group, Shine Group).

“We are making a significant new investment in content that we can provide on an ad-supported basis and that is also attractive to our young and growing audience across the globe that prefers on-demand over appointment viewing,” said Kai Henniges, Viewster CEO.

In more detail, the offerings from each of these content providers include:

  • Starz Digital Media: Head Case (comedienne Alexandra Wentworth, Andy Dick, Jeff Goldblum), Gravity (actor-director Eric Schaeffer, Ving Rhames) and Hollywood Residential (Adam Paul, Rachael Harris). While the US television audience is well acquainted with the Starz Media brand and original content, for many in the UK and Australia, Viewster will provide the first exposure to this different and daring cable programming.
  • Shine Group: Mayday, starring Lesley Manville (Law & Order UK, The Queen), Aidan Gillen (Game Of Thrones, The Dark Knight Rises), Peter Firth (Spooks, Hunt For Red October), Sophie Okonedo (Criminal Justice, The Slap); Moving Wallpaper, starring Ben Miller, Elizabeth Berrington, Raquel Cassidy.
  • ALL3MEDIA: From one of the U.K.’s top production and distribution companies for independent content, highlights include the BBC’s popular Skins, Channel 4’s award-winning Fresh Meat (from the creators of Peep Show), and E4’s award-winning dramedy Beaver Falls. The titles available will be available exclusively on Viewster for the German speaking countries, Australia, and France.
  • KBS Media: A major Korean producer and a company of KBS, the leading Korean public service broadcaster through which Viewster is able to bring Korean sensation Boys Over Flowers and other popular dramatic programming to a dedicated audience in the US.

“As an international broadcast content programmer, our approach to each regional audience is different,” Henniges added. “In the United States, we follow a multi-niche approach with in-demand series from Europe, Asia and other regions. Our UK audience receives an ever-increasing library of national and international top titles. In Australia and the German-speaking countries, we strongly count on US and UK titles that cannot be easily found otherwise, and in some cases, are even exclusive to Viewster.”
