Access licenses RDK from Comcast

July 9, 2013

Access, a global provider of advanced software technologies to the mobile, beyond-PC and digital TV markets, is licensing the Reference Design Kit (RDK) software stack from Comcast to enhance the development and deployment of next-generation video services that support DLNA Premium Video Guidelines and HTML5. The RDK cuts the development time in half for set-top boxes, allowing vendors to bring rich multiscreen viewing experiences to market faster.

The RDK software provides a common framework for powering two-way, IP or hybrid set-top boxes and video gateway devices.

“Industry commentators see increased potential for the RDK to become an important ecosystem that provides the functionality and interoperability for operators looking for a standardised route to providing advanced TV services,” said Kunihiro Ishiguro, CTO of Access “Our solution enables operators to deploy the RDK and at the same time enables operators to launch exciting new multi-room and multi-screen services as well as giving US cable operators a pre-integrated route to meeting the FCC mandate for IP interoperability.”
