New ‘City DTT’ will deliver to 10m homes

July 11, 2013

Canis Media, the UK’s leading independent broadcast consultancy and TV services group, today made new ‘City’ based DTT video streams available for long term lease. Canis Media is acting on behalf of multiplex owner, Comux UK, and is offering broadcasters and channel owners access to approximately 10 million DTT homes on two brand new 24/7 UK free-to-air digital terrestrial (Freeview) video streams. The streams have the capacity to carry two different SD channels or one HD channel.

The two streams will have the same footprint as the local TV network that Comux UK is building out across the UK. This will include London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Leeds, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Belfast in Phase 1 of its roll out. The sale will generate revenue for the local TV initiative, which will support the development and promotion of local TV channels.

Fergus Lawson, Managing Director of Canis Media said: “These new ‘City DTT’ video streams are unique in so far as this is a free-to-air digital terrestrial multiplex that is available only in the UK’s major towns and cities. This means they have the potential to deliver an affluent urban audience. We anticipate a lot of interest from a wide range of broadcasters and channel owners who are keen to talk to this highly sought after demographic.”

Ed Hall, Chief Executive of Comux UK, said: “City DTT will be available in around half of all the UK’s DTT homes, and offers a low cost opportunity for operators to reach a young, buzzing and measurable metropolitan audience with their own dedicated channel number on the UK’s DTT (Freeview) platform.”
