August 6, 2013

In the competitive world of media research SNL Kagan has acquired Multimedia Research Group (MRG), the media and technology research firm based in Arizona. SNL Kagan claims it will expand its US and global coverage through this partnership, adding proprietary research, forecasts and analytics on an expanded suite of media technologies surrounding OTT video and pay-TV in markets around the world.

MRG offers analytics and industry intelligence on the video and media ecosystem in markets around the globe. MRG’s major focus areas are pay-TV, OTT video, multiscreen, and the research team produces deep dive studies of video technologies including set-top box, encryption/rights management, middleware, encoding and transcoding. The addition of these resources and coverage areas uniquely positions SNL Kagan to deliver actionable data, insights and advice to operator and vendor marketing, strategy and product executives moving forward.

“Acquiring MRG is an important strategic and geographic expansion. It allows us to grow our global coverage and to strengthen our coverage of cable/satellite/telco TV technology with a group of well-respected veteran analysts,” said Dan Seideman, SNL Kagan Senior Director.
