Aereo reveals three further city launches

August 8, 2013

Emboldened by its success in court battles with US network broadcasters who claim copyright infringement, Internet TV streaming service Aereo has named three further launch dates and cities.

Aereo plans to launch in Miami on September 2nd, the Greater Houston area on September 16th, and Dallas on September 23rd.

Aereo early January 2013 announced its expansion to 22 new US cities beyond its New York initial launch. These 22 markets represent the first phase of Aereo’s planned nationwide expansion, which will be rolled out over the course of 2013, starting in the late spring: Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Birmingham (AL), Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Kansas City, Madison (WI), Miami, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Providence (RI), Raleigh-Durham (NC), Salt Lake City, Tampa, and Washington D.C.

“Every week or two weeks there will be two or three more cities,” Kanojia told Fortune senior writer Jessi Hempel late July in a one-on-one interview at Fortune’s Brainstorm Tech conference.

Aereo’s technology works on ‘smart’ devices from tablets to phones to laptop computers. Aereo is currently supported on iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, Chrome, Internet Explorer 9, Firefox, Safari, Opera, AppleTV (via airplay) and Roku devices. Android support is expected later this summer.
