QuickPlay network PVR solution

September 10, 2013

QuickPlay Media, a provider of cloud-based managed service solutions for the distribution of premium media to IP-connected devices, has unveiled its Network PVR (nPVR) solution which enables recording and playback of Live TV content on OTT devices such as mobile phones, tablets, PCs, connected TVs and gaming consoles. nPVR enables cable operators and multiscreen service providers to launch new Live TV services or augment their TV Everywhere offerings with advanced features when used in conjunction with QuickPlay’s Live TV managed service.

With nPVR, Live TV content is recorded and indexed for a configurable period of time in a cloud-based “playback buffer.”  As a result, consumers are able to pause and record Live TV, scrub back and forth during playback to time shift their viewing, and start playback at the beginning of their show automatically, regardless of what time they tune in. Users can also catch up with shows using the backwards electronic programme guide. These features not only improve user experience and engagement, but also reduce the costs of hard drives and physical set-top boxes for customers when deployed by their multiscreen service provider.
“As consumers increasingly adopt and engage with multiscreen services, they come to expect the same features they get through a traditional TV experience on set-top boxes,” said Charlotte Burke, Chief Marketing Officer at QuickPlay.

“Multiscreen service providers must improve the user experience in order to meet consumer expectations and nPVR provides a unique set of features that can help give them an advantageous edge in this fast-maturing market.”
