Mediaroom, the IPTV platform business acquired by Ericsson from Microsoft, is to target a broader pay-TV customer base beyond its existing telco clients.
Pete Thompson, Senior Vice President, Business Unit Support Solutions, Ericsson, noted that Mediaroom is the largest deployed IPTV solution, with 25 per cent of the market, and that under its new ownership, was part of a much bigger effort experienced at working within the broadcasting sector.
“Operators are looking towards a converged platform,” he said. “Mediaroom is best placed under Ericsson. We want to be able to deliver to any smart piece of glass, and be part of a much larger pay-TV industry,” he stated, suggesting that this could be with cable and satellite customers.
