Genexis Broadband Forum BBF.247 certification for Hybrid GPON product

October 18, 2013

Genexis, the independent supplier of FTTH home gateways, has announced successful BBF.247 certification of its Hybrid Element GPON optical network termination unit. Broadband Forum’s BBF.247 certification is the most prominent international certification standard in the GPON FTTH industry. It indicates market readiness and compatibility for interoperability and rollout.
“We are pleased to add Genexis’ Hybrid Element product to our list of BBF.247 certified GPON ONT’s,” says Robin Mersh, CEO at Broadband Forum. “Genexis was well prepared for the testing procedure and passed the various tests quickly. The successful certification means their GPON ONT is now compliant to BBF specifications, enabling smoother integration in any GPON network.”

“The BBF.247 certification of the Hybrid Element GPON marks an important step for our GPON strategy,” says Kees de Waard, Director of Business Development at Genexis. “Genexis has a distinctive approach to the GPON market, where we offer our Hybrid Element GPON ONT independently of the various OLTs available in the market. The BBF.247 certification speeds up the interoperability process with these OLTs and market rollout for our customers.”

The Element GPON ONT is part of Genexis’ Hybrid product family. This modular product family splits the GPON solution in three interchangeable elements: an FTU, ONT and Residential Gateway, together forming a complete GPON home gateway solution. The single-port Element ONT can be interoperable with any OLT in the market, increasing flexibility and avoiding the risk of a vendor lock-in. The Hybrid residential gateway is managed independently of the Element ONT using standard provisioning protocols.
