Wuaki.tv steps up international growth

November 21, 2013

Wuaki.tv, the OTT provider based in Spain, is to launch in France, Germany and Italy next year, with a further 10 European launches, including the Nordic region, planned for 2015, Simon Homent, UK content director told the OTTtv World Summit.

Rakuten, the Japanese e-commerce group that owns Wuaki, already has a presence in four of the five countries in which it will launch in 2014. Homent said that the company had entered the UK market after its launch in Spain with the object of striking multi-territory content deals. While it operates both subscription VoD and transactional service in Spain and the UK, it will initially launch only transactional services in more countries.

In the UK the service is now available on the Samsung, Panasonic, LG and Xbox platforms among others. Wuaki.tv plans to add more devices next year, including Roku, said Homent.
