ALi to launch ATSC STB for Mexico

December 20, 2013

ALi, an STB system-on-chip solution provider, has joined forces with LG Electronics and Shenzhen Jiuzhou to begin mass production of a new ATSC set-top box solution. The collaborated solution, bringing optimum cost/performance value to the Mexican market, will feature ALi’s STB SoC, M3812, with LGE’s ATSC demodulator and RF tuner, and the set-top box will be manufactured by Shenzhen Jiuzhou.

ATSC, mostly adopted in the Americas, is a set of standards for digital television transmission over terrestrial networks. ATSC has replaced the analogue NTSC in the United States and Canada, with the digital rollover to be completed by 2015 in Mexico. The Mexican authority is pressing forward with the digitalization process, with Tijuana in northern Mexico being the first city in Latin America to complete the switchover from analogue to digital TV broadcasting just as recently as in May 2013. The digital television penetration in Mexico is currently around 22 per cent of the total 27 million TV households, making Mexico the next focus for explosive growth of digital TV broadcasting.

David Xia, VP Global Sales and Marketing of Shenzhen Jiuzhou, remarked, “This joint solution has great advantages on technical performance and cost. ALi provides a very stable and cost competitive solution, plus the ATSC system expert LGE‘s support on ATSC demodulator and tuner, and Jiuzhou’s professional manufacturing capability and strong marketing promotion. It is no doubt that we will together ride the next wave of digital transition underway in Mexico.”
