Qatar’s first satellite, Es’Hail-1, will make its commercial debut on December 30th when it carries the Qatar Exxon-Mobil tennis Open 2014 which starts in Doha, and runs until January 4th. Es’hailSat is the gold sponsor of the tournament being hosted by Qatar Tennis Federation. The tournament “coincides with the effective start of operations of the company’s first satellite, Es’hail 1, at 26°E broadcast hotspot.

“Es’hail 1 is also expected to broadcast the tournament live and in HD from Doha throughout the satellite coverage spanning the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region,” the company said in a statement.

With more than 300 million viewers in the region, the Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2014 represents the right event for the introduction of Es’hailSat to the Mena audiences, it added.

Es’hailSat, through its existing and planned satellites, is expected to broadcast diversified and high quality premium content with anti-jamming capabilities across the Mena.
“We are very pleased to be sponsoring a tournament as prestigious as the Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2014. The extended viewership of the tournament in our core market, the Mena region, is a great opportunity to introduce the new company that we are. The tournament is also the right premium content we seek to broadcast through our existing and planned fleet of satellites from 26°E broadcast hotspot,” said Es’hailSat’s CEO Ali Ahmed Al Kuwari.
