Italian DTH platform TivuSat activated 320,000 new smart cards in 2013, taking the total to 2,044,000.

Sicily, Lombardy and Piedmont were the regions where TivuSat recorded the highest growth over the past year. Calabria, Liguria and Molise are the regions where the DTH platform has the highest penetration rate, as these parts of the country concentrate several geographically disadvantaged areas for terrestrial broadcasting.

TivuSat viewers can currently receive 68 TV channels (some in HD). They include from broadcasting groups Rai, Mediaset, Sky Italia (Cielo) Discovery (Real Time, DMax), LT Multimedia and Class, as well as La7, Deejay TV, TV2000, QVC Italia and Home Shopping Europe. Some of the internatonal broadcasters featured include BBC World News, Euronews, France 24, TV5 Monde, Deutsche Welle , TVE Internacional, Bloomberg, Al Jazeera, CCTV News, and NHK.

In a related development, Vatican-based broadcaster Telepace has started broadcasting in HD (DVB-S2) on TivuSat (channel 515).
