The Red Road to premiere exclusively on Sundance Channel

February 25, 2014

AMC/Sundance Channel Global and Entertainment One (eOne) have announced that the AMC Networks original series “The Red Road” will premiere exclusively on Sundance Channel internationally on the eve of the Sundance London film and music festival on April 24th. Extending its commitment to showcasing first run original drama, AMC/Sundance Channel Global has secured exclusive rights for the 6×60’ series for Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa, and key European territories including France, Iberia, Benelux, Poland and CEE.

“The Red Road” star Jason Momoa (“Game of Thrones”) will celebrate the launch next month by attending a European press junket in support of the series.

The acquisition of “The Red Road” complements Sundance Channel’s current line-up of global hits from AMC Networks, including “Rectify,” “Mad Men,” “The Walking Dead” and eOne’s “Hell on Wheels,” among other shows. The news follows numerous recent distribution deals internationally for Sundance Channel’s linear and VoD services.

Earlier this year, eOne and AMC Networks signed an exclusive multi-year distribution agreement whereby eOne acquired international distribution rights for original scripted series from US based AMC Networks’ AMC and Sundance Channel, including “The Red Road.”

Bruce Tuchman, President of AMC/Sundance Channel Global, commented, “We are thrilled to add the newest original series from AMC Networks to Sundance Channel’s slate of first run original drama. ‘The Red Road’ is an atmospheric and enthralling series that solidifies Sundance Channel as a destination for high quality independent-minded entertainment across platforms. We’re committed to supporting the growth of the pay-TV industry with distinctive programming and an advanced rights offering that helps operators to attract even more subscribers.”

The series boasts an exceptional cast featuring Momoa, Martin Henderson (Devil’s Knot, The Ring, Smokin’ Aces), Julianne Nicholson (August: Osage County, “Boardwalk Empire”), Tamara Tunie (“Law and Order: Special Victim’s Unit,” “The Good Wife”), Annalise Basso (Oculus, Standing Up), Allie Gonino (“The Lying Game,” Hidden Away), Kiowa Gordon (The Twilight Saga, Wind Walkers), Lisa Bonet (High Fidelity, “The Cosby Show”) and Golden Globe nominee Tom Sizemore (Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, Pearl Harbor, Heat).

“The Red Road” is a gripping, dramatic thriller that presents two distinct visions of America today as played out through the conflict between two different men.  The series revolves around a local sheriff (Henderson) struggling to keep his family together while simultaneously policing two clashing communities: the small town where he grew up just outside of New York City, and the neighboring mountains—home of a federally unrecognized Native American tribe.  After a terrible tragedy and cover-up further divides these worlds, an uneasy alliance is forged between the officer and a dangerous member of the tribe (Momoa).  As each of the two men find themselves increasingly compromised by the other and the emotional ghosts of their collective pasts begin to emerge, the lives of both quickly unravel, leading to terrible consequences.

Hailing from acclaimed writer Aaron Guzikowski (Contraband, Prisoners) and veteran producer Sarah Condon (“Bored to Death”), “The Red Road” consists of six one-hour episodes. The series is executive produced by Guzikowski and Condon, and Bridget Carpenter (“Friday Night Lights,” “Parenthood”) is executive producer and showrunner. Award-winning director James Gray (The Immigrant, Two Lovers, We Own The Night) directed the first episode.

Sundance Channel offers audiences a diverse and engaging selection of first run original drama and other iconic programming, award winning and locally appealing independent films and documentaries. It is available to pay-TV operators as a standard and high definition linear television channel, VoD service and via mobile and online authenticated streaming.  Additionally, select VoD programme offerings are available during theatrical windows so audiences can watch films that are still in theatres from the comfort of their own homes.
