According to Caroline van Weede, Managing Director of Cable Europe, 2013 was a landmark year for the broadband cable industry in Europe as the number of digital subscribers overtook analogue subscribers for the first time. According to IHS, 54.3 per cent of subscribers are now digital.

“In terms of revenue, the crossover took place in 2009,” she told a press briefing at Cable Congress in Amsterdam. “The digital TV customer has the opportunity to consume more services, which generates more revenue for cable.”

She suggested that cable was ‘The King of Content Delivery’, based on its ability to deliver to multiple screens, its integration of pay-TV with Smart TVs, and its pairing of TVs with mobile devices.
