Croatian broadcast network operator Odasiljaci i Veze (OiV) has signed a €3.4 million deal with Bosnia’s Ministry of Transport and Communications for the first phase of the introduction of Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT).

OiV has been contracted to upgrade, from analogue to digital, five broadcasting locations in Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Mostar within 120 days. The selected broadcasting standard will be DVB-T MPEG-4 (H.264/AVC), which can be later adapted to the introduction of the DVB-T2 standard.

OiV, which implemented Croatia’s analogue switch-off in the period 2009-2010, was chosen for the project in Bosnia through an international tender which attracted a total of five bids.

A new public tender is already being prepared for the second stage of the process, which should be completed by the end of 2014 and cover the areas of Trebinje, Posusje, Livno, Bihac and Travnik.

Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted a digital switchover strategy five years ago and is aiming to implement it by mid-2015.
