Cable Europe, the trade association representing all leading broadband cable TV operators and their national associations throughout Europe, has appointed seasoned broadcast public affairs executive Virginia Lee as Director of Communications.

Matthias Kurth, Executive Chairman of Cable Europe, said he was delighted to announce Virginia’s the appointment, particularly at a time when the “vibrant” industry had such an incredibly strong story to tell. “Both technology and business have never moved faster in our sector, and it’s vital that we continue to engage and inform across European markets to ensure future-proof environments capable of fostering and supporting innovation and growth.”

Caroline van Weede, Cable Europe’s Managing Director, said Lee’s appointment further strengthened the Cable Europe team. “She brings with her a wealth of experience in corporate communications gained within the media sector, and is as excited as we are to continue to develop our dialogue with the widest range of our stakeholders.”

Lee has spent much of her career as a Corporate Communications specialist within the media industry, with experience encompassing the regulatory, trade association, public and private sectors. Among her roles prior to Cable Europe were Director of Communications and Public Policy at Discovery Networks Europe, Head of Corporate Affairs for the Granada Media Group, and Press Officer for the UK’s then broadcast regulator the Independent Television Commission.

She has also worked as a Communications and Government Affairs consultant to the UK’s Satellite and Cable Broadcasters’ Group, the European Centre for Public Affairs, and on behalf of Albany Associates in the United Arab Emirates and in Kosovo.
