HBO content is now available on Amazon Prime. Subscribers in the US can stream a number of HBO library titles including The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, Six Feet Under and Flight Of The Conchords.

Under the multi-year deal, more content will be added in the future. However, no HBO shows that have been made recently – including the likes of Game of Thrones and Girls – will be part of the service until three years after they were originally shown.

Prior to the deal, HBO did not allow Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime or any other US streaming services access to its programmes, restricting them instead to its own HBO Go streaming service.

“We’re thrilled to deliver this collection of groundbreaking, beloved content from HBO to Amazon Prime members for unlimited streaming at no additional cost,” Brad Beale, Amazon’s director of Digital Video Content Acquisition, said in a statement. “Given the number of customers who purchase these titles from Amazon, we know how much customers love these shows.”

The deal is limited to the US at present. In the UK, BSkyB owns the rights to much of HBO’s back catalogue.
