May 27, 2014
From David Del Valle in Madrid
Mediaset Spain, owner of Tele 5 and Cuatro, and WhatsApp have signed a pioneering agreement that will enable the broadcaster to interact with users via messages, video clips, photos and audio clips with content from the Football World Cup in Brazil.
Mediaset plans to turn the Football World Cup into the first multi-screen sport event for 26 million active Whatsapp users in Spain. It will provide a telephone number for users to register to a broadcasting list which will allow them to get videos and information about the World Cup in their phones. In addition, users will be able to send photos, audio or videos supporting the Spanish team which will be shown on Mediaset’s website and on air.
The link will offer live matches and a la carte with six different channels, videos, photos, news and information about teams, players, rankings and analysis.
