The NDS conditional access name has vanished but Cisco, its new owner, says that its CA solutions are now in more than 40 million India homes, spread over cable and DTH.

Cisco’s ‘Videoguard’ CA and DRM technology is well-understood by the pay-TV industry and is in use by more than 150 pay-TV broadcasters around the globe. As far as India is concerned it is Cisco CA that is used by Airtel Digital DTH, DEN Networks, GPTL, cable operator Hathway and TataSky.

Multiply a single home by the usual industry standard of at least five viewers per household and this means that Cisco is reaching more than 200 million viewers in India.

“Achieving the milestone of 40 million homes in India reinforces our commitment to the government’s mandate to digitalise the cable industry and also speaks of our ability to provide best in class solutions and technology,” Cisco President for India and South Asia boss, Dinesh Malkani.
