Sky Italia wins Serie A for €572m

Sky Italia has managed to snatch the TV rights for all matches of the Serie A football league (a total of 380) for the seasons 2015-2018, for a reported €572 million.
Its main pay-TV rival Mediaset, owned by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, spent a reported €373 million to show the matches of Italy’s top eight teams on DTT. Those teams include AC Milan, Inter, Juventus, Lazio, Roma and Napoli.
The Serie A clubs will therefore receive a total of €945 million, which is around €130 million less than the starting price, but €114 million more than for the previous three year-period.
In a related development, Italian press has reported of possible interest by Al Jazeera for Mediaset’s pay-TV platform, Mediaset Premium.
