Wurl, ARRIS launch ARRIS Market platform

July 22, 2014

ARRIS and Wurl have announced the launch of ARRIS Market – a new open platform for cable operators combining OTT content with traditional programming services on ARRIS set-tops.

The platform is standards-based and features an HTML5 interface that integrates thousands of OTT content choices into a single, seamless experience. ARRIS Market gives operators unprecedented flexibility in branding the look and feel of the environment with the ability to customize the organisation of the content.

ARRIS’s 2014 Consumer Entertainment Index found that consumers watch an average of 11 hours of broadcast TV, 11 hours of subscription TV, and 7 hours of streaming Internet TV, every week. ARRIS Market addresses how operators deliver this astonishing amount of linear and streaming content and simplifies the discovery process for consumers.

“The Wurl platform enables cable operators using the ARRIS Whole Home Solution to give their subscribers access to a broad selection of popular streaming services without the complex setup of additional third-party devices or ‘smart TV’ technology,” said Sean Doherty, CEO of Wurl, Inc. “This new capacity to select and discover both traditional and OTT content from one remote control has exciting implications for the future of set-top functionality.”
