Netflix Spain debut in 2015
July 30, 2014
From David Del Valle in Madrid
Netflix reportedly plans to enter into Spain by the end of 2015, reversing its decision not to come to market on the grounds of a high piracy level and the lack of a significant pay-TV penetration.
Netflix is currently expanding in Europe where it is already present in the UK, the Netherlands, Ireland and four Nordic countries – Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. By the end of this year, Netflix plans launch in Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg.
In 2015, the company is planning a third phase of expansion, according to news agency Europa Press, with Spain included in the timetable. In Spain, there are already several OTT services into operation like Wuaki.tv with 1.2 million subscribers and Canal Plus’ Yomvi with 430,000 users.
