Envivio powers cloud video in China

August 29, 2014

Delivery solutions specialist Envivio has deployed what it claims is the first cloud video transcoding service in China for Beijing Gehua CATV Network (BGCTV). It is said to be the first multi-screen video service offered by a Chinese cable network operator using a cloud solution, and the largest multi-screen cable service offered in China, estimated to reach 3 million subscribers.

“We are proud to be the first in China to use the latest in cloud technology for our multi-screen video services,” BGCTV said. “We have selected the right partner in Envivio for this ground-breaking service, as we appreciate they have the most experience in multi-screen and one of the most reliable video solutions available today.”

“With smartphones hitting the 90 per cent penetration rate in China, offering video to devices secondary to the television is critical for operators like BGCTV,” said Envivio’s CEO Julien Signès.  “Our video solutions enable BGCTV to stream video in various formats and resolutions, from HDTV to bandwidth-efficient profiles for any device, including smartphones, all from the same encoder,” he added.
