Cairo-based Nilesat is taking a long-term ‘multi-transponder’ lease on the upcoming Eutelsat 8 WestB satellite. The satellite is due for launch next summer, and will be located at 8 degrees West, alongside Nilesat’s orbital slot at 7 deg West.
The two locations, which can be received on a single dish, already carry more than 1000 channels to the Arab world.
Michel Azibert, Eutelsat’s deputy CEO, secured the deal in a recent visit to Cairo. By and large, Eutelsat supplies wholesale capacity to Nilesat which then sells transmission bandwidth to its Middle East clients.
