Celeno announces latest in over 75 design wins

September 30, 2014

Celeno Communications, a provider of high-performance Wi-Fi chips and software for home networking applications, and Compal Broadband Networks (CBN), has announced that Compal’s 24×8 DOCSIS 3.0 Wireless Gateways will be powered by Celeno’s CL2330 3×3 and CL2340 4×4 802.11ac solutions. Along with Celeno’s unique OptimizAIR 2.0 airtime management technology, these solutions will add enhanced bandwidth management, extreme speed and improved coverage to Compal’s gateways, enabling them to offer their clients the ability to provide new and differentiated services.

In today’s multi-device, data-hungry market, service providers are increasingly enabling their gateways with multiple virtual networks in order to offer new services to their customers. Public Wi-Fi hotspots powered by a residential gateway, for example, provide exciting new opportunities for cable operators looking to expand their service offering and entice customers. Additional virtual networks could be allocated for wireless video STBs, Internet of Things and smart home applications.

Gateways powered by Celeno’s Airtime Management technology can support all these applications by dynamically apportioning Wi-Fi capacity between devices and multiple virtual Wi-Fi networks (SSID). This presents service providers with new service business models and monetisation opportunities and improves Quality of Service (QoS) and Quality of Experience (QoE), reducing service calls and operating expenses.

“We have selected Celeno’s technology because it delivers a powerful and highly intelligent Wi-Fi solution that gives our service provider customers the ability to enable new service offerings and business models, and improve the home Wi-Fi experience for the end-user in a device-saturated reality,” said Alex Wang, CEO Compal. “Faster Wi-Fi is not enough to master the challenges of today’s connected world, it needs to be smarter as well. We believe that Celeno’s industry-leading Airtime Management technology provides that missing link.”

“Wi-Fi is fast becoming a critical component in cable gateways, functioning as one of the most important tools enabling service providers to differentiate their broadband service from their competitors,” said Gilad Rozen, CEO of Celeno. “We are delighted to be partnering with Compal Broadband Networks, a world class cable gateway supplier, and we are confident that Celeno’s high-performing Wi-Fi with its unique QoS capabilities will give its MSO customers an edge.”

The CL2330 and CL2340 are single chip PCIe Wi-Fi solutions, support 80MHz bandwidth for higher throughput and support both implicit and explicit beamforming for extended range.
