October 6, 2014

On August 29th 2014, the GS Group international holding company unveiled its plans for the implementation of the satellite-broadcasting project in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. The holding company representatives made a declaration at the first session of the Inter-governmental Russian-Myanmar Commission for trade and economic cooperation.

GS Group representatives took part in the discussion of bilateral cooperation in the field of trade and investment during the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, which took place in city of Nay Pyi Taw, Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Denis Budilov, Deputy Director for Foreign Broadcasting Projects of GS Group presented one of the core company competencies – implementation of international digital TV broadcasting projects. Following the report, delegates discussed possible ways of bilateral cooperation for developing satellite and terrestrial digital broadcasting in the Republic. Alexey Ulyukayev, Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation who headed the Russian delegation, marked the special interest of the GS Group holding company by establishing technological and investment partnerships with companies of Myanmar, which will potentially result in successful expansion of economic ties between the two countries and will have a positive impact of the image of Russian high technologies within the global market.

On August 28th, the day before the intergovernmental session, representatives of GS Group and the Ministry of Communications of Myanmar held a joint meeting, where they had announced their plans for the implementation of the satellite-broadcasting project from the GS Group in the Republic together with a local partner. Myanmar is a promising region for establishing Pay-TV platforms due to the presence of a significant number of households with a TV and low availability of Pay-TV in the country. Today, the developing country of Myanmar is open to investments from other countries and GS Group has submitted cooperation prospects for implementing the first mass satellite Pay-TV platform, expansion of the TV viewing audience and creation of new jobs in Myanmar. It has aroused great interest amongst representatives of the Myanmar government, which has been clearly reflected at the intergovernmental meeting that took place on August 29th.

“The GS Group competencies include implementing foreign broadcasting projects and their successful support based on positive experiences. We are ready to launch the broadcasting project in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar within a short time, which will be the first publicly available satellite TV in the country.” – commented Denis Budilov, Deputy Director of Foreign Broadcasting Projects, GS Group.

The agreement to establish an Intergovernmental Russian-Myanmar Commission on trade and economic cooperation was signed on August 29th, 2014 by Alexey Ulyukaev, Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, and Kan Zaw, Minister for National Planning and Economic Development of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. The Commission aims to set new dynamics for international relations and to turn development into a major factor of trade and economic relations between Russia and Myanmar along with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

“We believe that Myanmar is one of the prospective partners of the Russian Federation and I’m sure that the Inter-governmental Commission will hit the ground running for joint scientific, technical and economic development.” – said Alexey Ulyukayev, Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.
