Ziggo TV subs down 20%

Dutch cable operator Ziggo saw core profit rise by 3.4 per cent in the third quarter. The group, which last week received EU clearance to be bought by US cable group Liberty Global, said broadband subscribers grew by 6.2 per cent from the same period last year.

The number of digital TV subscribers increased by 5,000 to 2,324 million in Q3, representing a penetration of 87.1 per cent. But the number of TV-only subscribers decreased by 20.2 per cent compared to the same quarter last year, settling at a total of 634,000 as of September 30th 2014.

Overall, the group made an adjusted core profit of €228 million in the third quarter.

Ziggo repeated its 2014 guidance for adjusted core profit to be unchanged from last year’s.
